Garden of Loss
Solo Exhibition - Cultivator at Bray Grove Farm, a host of the Terrain Biennial
Sunday, October 22, 2017, 2pm - 5pm
Cultivator is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Vivian Visser during Bray Grove Farm’s Autumn Farm Day. We are excited to host her outdoor site specific installation as part of Sabina Ott's Terrain Biennial. Visser will reprise a version of her sculpture, Garden of Loss, utilizing natural materials found on Bray Grove Farm. Stone paths lead to four pod like sanctuaries, created out of wood and sticks. A reflection of the sorrows of the devastation of nature, her installation coincides with the farm’s mission of land stewardship and sustainability.
Please join us on Sunday, October 22nd from 2-5pm for art and conversation. Bray Grove Farm is located 70 miles southwest of Chicago in Grundy County. To confirm your attendance and receive directions and parking information, please email.
Vivian Visser has been creating sculptural works exploring our spiritual relationship with nature since the early ‘90’s. With works in national shows (Sculpted Green in Bellevue Washington and Fertile Ground – Honoring Nature in Art at Imlay Fine Arts in Montclair, NJ) Local exhibits (Chicago’s Twelve-12 Artists Mobilizing for the Earth, Zhou B Art Center and Garfield Park Conservatory, Chicago, IL. and Feminist Ecology – Women and the Earth, at the Koehnline Museum of Art) and International exhibits (Cool Globes – Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet, which was at the Climate Summit in Copenhagen) she shares her ideas about "our need to create a better relationship with nature as a way to find peace within ourselves and each other." Recently, she has completed a commission of interpretive public art work for the Openlands Lakeshore Preserve and created an environmental sculpture for the Guandu International Outdoor Sculpture Festival in Taiwan.
